From a child, dogs have always been part of my life. They are a comfort, make me laugh, loyal, trusting, non-judgmental, always happy to see you, and are good therapists!
Early 20’s I had my first two dogs that I trained in obedience – 2 German Shepherds. One was a rescue. One I saw born.
Went to obedience classes. Moved to being a trainer.
Competed in Obedience Competitions.
Travelling saw no dogs until about 1990 and haven’t been without one since.
First was a Border Collie from a puppy.
Next came a Rottweiler/Labrador and a Mini Poodle, both from puppies.
Now there is Polley from a puppy. A Toy Poodle who is a bright companion. We enjoy Obedience classes and agility.
I love the enthusiasm of owners working with their dogs, the eagerness of dogs to learn and give their best to please their owners and the smiles on all faces and tails wagging with happiness. It’s rewarding.
We have also been going into schools being involved with the Story Dog Programme. This is a programme that helps children struggling to read to enjoy and gain a love of reading. Polley sits next to the student who pats and reads to her. She adores it.
Training makes dogs and owners closer and able to enjoy each other’s company without fear or anxiety on either side. Polite well educated dogs, confident dedicated owners.
